Tour limited to 12 people
Land with polar ice caps and glaciers melting at an alarming rate this truly is a tour to do now before this incredible part of the world changes for ever.
Beginning in Longyearbyen on the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard, one of the world’s last great wildernesses where polar bears outnumber people, we will embark on a 14-night cruise aboard the luxurious MV Sea Spirit (see at the end of the itinerary for more details about our vessel). Our route will take us across the Barents Sea to remote, Franz Josef Land, a volcanic, glaciated archipelago only discovered about 150 years ago. Franz Josef Land is Russian territory.
This was once a major stopping point for famous polar explorers making the often deadly passage to the North Pole. So, not only will we be in a world of unforgettable scenery but we will be following in the footsteps of some of the world’s great adventurers. This archipelago is only accessible for a few weeks every year.
National Geographic has described these islands having pristine land and underwater environments. They are home to polar bears, walrus, and rare species of whale including narwhal, beluga and bowhead.
