Queensland on Tour

Great Barrier reef

Theres more to Australia than meets the eye and I made the most of my time at the Queensland on tour event in Queenstown in early April. There were operators from every part of Queensland which stretches from the Gold Coast in the South all the way up to Cape York and inland encompassing some of the most stunning outback scenery.

It was especially good to meet Mom and Pop operations where farmers have diversified into tourism as a way to tide them over in lean times. They are so passionate about what they are bringing to Queensland tourism and their enthusiasm was infectious.

From the Carnival of Flowers in September in Toowoomba to the stunning islands of the Great Barrier Reef, Queensland has something for everyone and there is far more on offer than just theme parks and beaches. There are plains full of dinosaur fossils, the Daintree Rainforest, snorkelling and some of the best dives in the world all on our doorstep. One thing that I was happy to learn was that the winter months are the best time to visit the far north as the jellyfish move further north and the salt-water crocodiles are more dormant. It is the ideal time to visit Cairns, Port Douglas and the Great Barrier Reef.

Of course there is still the fun, family destinations of the Gold Coast, Surfer's Paradise and Brisbane. With shopping, theme parks, animal experiences and world-class eating you can't go wrong and with winter temperatures hovering in the 20's it is certainly a great escape from our frosty weather. Ask us about the fantastic family resorts.
